Legacy of Excellence
Organisation Jiu-Jitsu International (OJI) was founded with the mission of preserving, promoting, and advancing the traditions of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu while adapting its teachings to the realities of modern self-defense. Under the leadership of Soke Robert Panneton, the OJI has become a respected organization dedicated to technical excellence, personal development, and the transmission of traditional martial values.
Drawing upon decades of martial arts experience, the OJI's curriculum emphasizes practical self-defense, throws, joint locks, striking techniques, ground control, and the principles of Budo. The organization seeks to develop not only skilled martial artists but also individuals who embody respect, discipline, integrity, perseverance, and leadership.
Through affiliated schools and instructors across Canada, the OJI provides standardized curriculum development, instructor certification, rank recognition, and ongoing technical training, fostering a strong martial arts community committed to lifelong learning.
The founder
Soke Panneton & The Lineage
Since 1967, Soke Robert Panneton has pursued his martial arts journey through teaching and training in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu — more than five decades of practice and teaching. He later founded Budo-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu. Soke, 10th Dan in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu — previously Hanshi — he is recognised as a worldwide instructor.
For decades, he has worked in professional executive protection and defensive tactics at the highest level alongside his teaching. He is the founder of OJI, where he certifies black belts and sets the standards for the lineage.
Experience
Five decades on the mat
Since 1967, Soke Robert Panneton has pursued his martial arts journey through teaching and training in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. He later founded Budo-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, then worked in professional executive protection and defensive tactics at the highest level alongside his teaching.
OJI gives him a place to certify black belts and set international Jiu-Jitsu standards. He has certified 30+ black belts and now serves as a 10th-dan mentor to affiliated academies, including Vanguard Self-Defense Academy, ensuring their technique stays rooted in his standards.
1967
Begins his martial arts journey, teaching and training in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.
Founds Budo-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, his own system and dojo.
Recognised as a 10th-dan in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and a worldwide instructor — later elevated from Hanshi to Soke.
2004
Nominated to the WHFSC Hall of Fame.
Founds OJI to unite and certify affiliated schools and set international standards.
Today
30+ black belts certified, and 10th-dan mentor to affiliated academies across Quebec and Ontario.
