Our foundation
Organisation Jiu-Jitsu International (OJI) was founded with the mission of preserving, promoting, and advancing the traditions of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu while adapting its teachings to the realities of modern self-defense. Under the leadership of Soke Robert Panneton, the OJI has become a respected organization dedicated to technical excellence, personal development, and the transmission of traditional martial values.
Drawing upon decades of martial arts experience, the OJI's curriculum emphasizes practical self-defense, throws, joint locks, striking techniques, ground control, and the principles of Budo. The organization seeks to develop not only skilled martial artists but also individuals who embody respect, discipline, integrity, perseverance, and leadership.
Through affiliated schools and instructors across Canada, the OJI provides standardized curriculum development, instructor certification, rank recognition, and ongoing technical training, fostering a strong martial arts community committed to lifelong learning.
THE FOUNDER
Since 1968, Soke Robert Panneton has pursued his martial arts journey through teaching and training in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu. He later founded Budo-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu — more than five decades of practice and teaching. Soke, 10th Dan in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu — previously Hanshi — he is recognised as a worldwide instructor. For decades, he has also worked in professional executive protection and defensive tactics at the highest level alongside his teaching.
As founder of OJI, he certifies black belts and sets the standards for the lineage. Through OJI, he has certified 30+ black belts and set international Jiu-Jitsu standards. He also serves as a 10th-dan mentor to affiliated academies, including Vanguard Self-Defense Academy, ensuring their technique stays rooted in his standards.

No. No one loses their ranks. Your students keep everything they have earned — affiliation recognises their progress and gives it a standard the whole organisation stands behind.

Each member receives an OJI badge and a member passport, giving them a real identity within the organisation — plus member discounts at OJI seminars and events.
No. We do not change your curriculum. We offer guidance, mentorship and a clear path — you keep teaching your way, with a standard and a team behind you.
Yes. Your school stays yours — your name, your students, your way of teaching. Affiliation adds the standard, the mentorship and the network.
